شركة غاز البصرة وبرنامج الأغذية العالمي التابع للأمم المتحدة يطلقان مبادرة رائدة للزراعة المائية لتعزيز وتنويع الإنتاج الزراعي دعماً للأمن الغذائي في البصرة

أطلقت شركة غاز البصرة، بالتعاون مع برنامج الأغذية العالمي (WFP)، مبادرة رائدة لإدخال أنظمة الزراعة المائية في البصرة. ويجمع هذا النهج المبتكر بين الزراعة المائية وإنتاج المحاصيل بدون تربة، مما يوفر للمزارعين مساراً مستداماً لتنويع الإنتاج الزراعي، مع تحسين استخدام الأراضي وتعزيز النظم الغذائية المحلية.
وتدعو هذه المبادرة إلى استخدام التقنيات الزراعية الذكية وممارسات الري الحديثة، من خلال تزويد المزارعين بالأدوات والمعرفة اللازمة للتكيف مع تقلبات وتغيرات المناخ، مع تعزيز إنتاجيتهم وقدرتهم على الصمود. ولا يقتصر أثر هذه المبادرة على تحسين سبل العيش بشكل مباشر، بل يضع أيضاً أساساً لعرض أساليب إنتاج زراعي طويلة الأمد تتيح للمزيد من المزارعين تبني ممارسات زراعية قابلة للتوسع وصديقة للبيئة.
وبهذه المناسبة، صرّح السيد خالد البطاينة، المدير المفوض لشركة غاز البصرة:
“إن من دواعي السرور أن نقدم الدعم لعدد من المزارعين في البصرة، لقد مهدنا الطريق أمام ثمانين مزارعاً من قضاء الزبير للحصول على التوجيه والمساعدة في تحقيق كامل إمكانات سبل عيشهم. وهذا يتماشى تماماً مع استراتيجية الاستثمار الاجتماعي المستدام لشركة غاز البصرة.”
من جهته صرح السيد أميت سينغ، الممثل بالإنابة ومدير برنامج الأغذية العالمي في العراق:
“تعكس هذه المبادرة التزام برنامج الأغذية العالمي بالدعوة إلى أساليب زراعية تكيفية ومبتكرة ومرنة في مواجهة تحديات المناخ داخل العراق. ومن خلال إدخال الزراعة المائية، نعرض أساليب إبداعية تعظم الإنتاج الزراعي، وتعيد تشكيل نظرة المزارعين لتشجيعهم على تبني تقنيات جديدة وتنويع ممارساتهم.”
وتتضمن المبادرة تعزيز معرفة المزارعين ووعيهم من خلال جلسات تدريب فردية، لمعالجة القضايا المتعلقة بندرة المياه وتدهور الأراضي الزراعية.
كما ستعزز هذه المبادرة فرص تطوير تقنيات جديدة للحفاظ على المياه في الزراعة، مثل الزراعة المائية (الهيدروبونيك). وتمثل هذه المبادرة خطوة حيوية نحو الزراعة المستدامة في البصرة، إذ تجمع بين الابتكار ودعم المجتمعات.

*Basra Gas Company and United Nations World Food programme Pioneer Aquaponic farming to Boost and diversify agriculture production for food security in Basra*
Basra Gas Company, in cooperation with the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), launched a pioneering initiative to introduce aquaponic farming systems in Basra. This innovative approach integrates aquaculture and soilless crop production, offering farmers a sustainable pathway to diversify agricultural output, while optimizing land use and strengthening local food system.
The initiative advocates for using smart agricultural technologies and modern irrigation practices, by equipping farmers with tools and knowledge needed to adapt to changing climate variability and change while enhancing farmers’ productivity and resilience. This initiative not only supports immediate livelihood improvements but also lays a foundation to showcase more farmers long term agricultural production approaches that promote scalable and ecofriendly farming practices.
On this occasion, Mr. Khalid Al-Bataineh, Managing Director of Basra Gas Company, stated:
“I am very pleased that we are providing support to a number of farmers in Basra. We have paved the way for eighty farmers from Al-Zubair District to receive guidance and assistance in realizing the full potential of their livelihoods. This is fully consistent with Basra Gas Company’s sustainable social investment strategy.”
“This initiative reflects UN WFP’s commitment towards advocating for adaptive, innovative and resilient agricultural approaches in the face of climate challenges within Iraq. Through the introduction of aquaponic farming, we are showcasing creative approaches that maximise agri-production while reshaping perception among farmers to encourage them to embrace new technologies and diversity their practices,” said Mr. Amit Singh, Acting Representative and Country Director of WFP Iraq.
The initiative includes enhancing farmers’ knowledge and awareness through one-on-one training sessions, to address issues related to water scarcity and degrading land for agricultural production.

This initiative will also enhance opportunities to develop new techniques to conserve water in agriculture, such as hydroponic farming. This initiative represents a vital step toward sustainable agriculture in Basra, combining innovation with community resilience.
